LOZENGE TO SAVE LIVES
Caring for your gums is more important than caring for your teeth.
Research has shown that the presence of gum disease, which 90 per
cent of people experience at some point in their lives, actually
triples the risk of heart disease. Now, a revolutionary antioxidant
lozenge is set to fight gum disease. "During a cell's normal
life cycle, the body produces poisonous waste called free radicals,"
said a spokeswoman for Boots.
"Antioxidants are a major factor in fighting these poisons
and boosting the immune system. When levels of free radicals overload
our defense system, it causes a condition known as oxidative stress.
This can lead to potentially-fatal illnesses such as heart disease
and cancer." Until now, antioxidant preparations had to be
swallowed. But, now the new lozenge, called the ThioCare Oral Lozenge
(available from Boots at $19.99 for 30) targets the gums directly.
