Toothpaste that targets the gums
A NEW type of toothpaste based on antioxidants has been launched
to tackle gum disorders. The toothpaste has been developed to help
prevent the symptoms of periodontal (gum) disease and other problems
including bleeding, swollen and painful gums, gingivitis and dry
mouth syndromes.
One of the key antioxidants in ThioCare toothpaste is L-glutathione,
or GSH, which plays a key role in the body’s defenses. Much
of this antioxidant should come naturally from the food we eat,
and rich sources include fruits, vegetables, liver and fish. But
research shows that many people do not get enough GSH from their
diets alone to combat outside pollutants and toxins.
ThioCare includes GSH, but also has a range of antioxidants which
its makers say work together to increase the protective effect.
Gum disease, an infection of the tissues supporting the teeth,
is a major cause of tooth loss, but because it is usually painless,
many sufferers are unaware they have it.
